Crayons, Watercolors, and Handmade Paper....

 HANDMADE PAPER TILES

These handmade paper tiles are about 3" x 3." First I used white paper pulp to make 3"-square pieces of paper which, while still wet, I cast on various textured surfaces. When the paper was dry, I used an electric warming griddle  covered with aluminum foil and melted crayons in puddles of color. I then lightly drag the embossed side of the paper over the wax, just skimming the surface. The handmade paper takes up the wax in unpredictable ways and the color mix beautifully as this happens. When the wax sets I brush with various watercolor dyes (Dr. Ph. Martin's is my favorites -a little expensive but a little goes a long, long way. The backs of these paper tiles are just as beautiful as the fronts.
